The prob with Vancouver Island is that there is not a specific center for gay activities and the community north of Victoria seems to be very suspicious of new people. If you aren't Canadian forget it. The gays and lesbians aren't very open to newcomers. Great to have PRIDE, but newcomers need to feel welcome. I think it is wonderful that the rainbow flag flies over Nanaimo, and all GLBT Canadians should be happy about the progress made over the past few years....but the welcome mat needs to be put out for newbies, eh? Is there anything diverse and NON bar oriented available through Nanaimo PRIDE or anywhere else on the island for gays new to the area?
